April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (PSSO) will be dedicating its efforts to spreading awareness and raising funds for those affected.
The entire month will provide many opportunities for supporting the society’s mission to provide advocacy, education, research, and support services to those affected by Parkinson’s. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of Parkinson Society Canada.
During April the largest event will be a Cut-A-Thon which provides participants with a wash, cut and style for a set donation that contributes towards Parkinson’s. Participating hair stylists are donating their time and every penny goes towards supporting people affected by Parkinson’s. The event will be taking place April 26, visit www.cutathon.ca to find a list of participating salons.
“Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological disease with no cure, and the recent National Population Health Study predicts it will double by 2031,” said Shelley Rivard, CEO of Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario. “This sobering prediction only highlights how important it is that we have a month dedicated to raising awareness about Parkinson’s.”
Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario is the voice of people living with Parkinson’s in Southwestern Ontario. It began in 1980 as a single volunteer driven support group in London and now stretches from the Chatham-Kent to Waterloo.
