The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) reached a tentative deal Nov. 2 morning at the provincial bargaining table.
CUPE custodial and maintenance workers were engaged in work-to-rule job action, which meant certain duties – like the sweeping of floors and emptying of pencil sharpeners – were not being completed.
A statement issued by the province on Monday said the union has agreed to stop all job action while awaiting ratification of the deal.
Details of the agreement were not released, however Education Minister Liz Sandals said that the deal recognizes the important work that support workers do in Ontario’s schools.
“They play an integral role in ensuring our schools provide welcoming, safe and clean environments that support student success,” said Sandals in a statement.
