Police and fire officials have called off the search for a man who drowned in Belwood Lake on Sunday afternoon.

On July 29 at about 4pm emergency crews were called for a water rescue at the lake.

Wellington County OPP officials say two men appeared to be in distress in the water.

"One male was rescued by another boater and rushed to a local hospital," police stated in a press release.

"The second male, a 31-year-old Brampton man, did not resurface."

OPP officers, Centre Wellington firefighters and Guelph-Wellington paramedics searched for the missing man.

The search was called off at dusk but will resume at dawn. The OPP dive team is expected to assist with recovery efforts.
