Cox Construction awarded 2018 annual road rehabilitation in Puslinch

On May 2, Puslinch council awarded 2018 annual road rehabilitation work to Cox Construction at the tendered amount of $960,394 inclusive of the non-refundable portion of HST.

Council authorized the mayor and clerk to sign the required contract documents.

When tenders exceed $500,000, council authorization is required in accordance with the township purchasing and procurement of goods and services bylaw.

The 2018 road rehabilitation work includes the following:

– pulverize and pave Forestell Road between Sideroad 10 N. and Downey Road;

– pulverize and pave Forestell Road between Wellington Road 32 and Roszell Road;

– culvert installations on Victoria Road between Gilmour Road and Wellington Road 36; and (provisionally)

– pulverize and pave Concession 4 between Wellington Road 32 and Sideroad 10 N.

As the result of a call for tenders, six bids were received from Cox Construction, Capital Paving Inc., Steed and Evans, CoCo Paving, Brantco Construction and E&E Seegmiller.

After a review of the submitted bids, staff recommended the contract be awarded to Cox Construction, the lowest compliant bid submitted. The bid conforms to the specifications as requested in the tender document.

The 2018 capital budget includes $1,050,000 for road rehabilitation.

The provisional road works for Concession 4 between Wellington Road 32 and Sideroad 10 N. amount to $230,000 funded as $130,000 from tax levy and $100,000 from the public works replacement and restoration discretionary reserve.

These amounts are included in the funds noted above however are indicated as provisional in the contract documents.
