COVID-19 hospitalizations drop across WDGPH region

WELLINGTON COUNTY – There are 105 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 throughout the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region as of June 1, a 38 per cent decrease from 170 cases reported on May 24.

As of Tuesday, there are 18 known active cases in Wellington County, 19 in Dufferin County, and 63 in Guelph.

Provincial health officials admit limited access to COVID testing has resulted in an under-representation of how many active cases there truly are in the province.

Hospitalizations

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 across the WDGPH region has decreased from 17 on May 12, to nine as of May 29. No COVID-positive individuals were admitted to an ICU in the region.

Vaccinations

Across the WDGPH region, as of June 1, there are 157,286 people (59.4% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 257,942 people (88.8% of those five and older) who have received two doses and 7,582 have received a single dose.

At the county level, as of June 1, there are 50,223 people in Wellington (60.3% of those 12 and older) who have received three vaccine doses, 80,146 people (87.4% of those five and older) who have received two doses, and 2,117 received a single dose.

Deaths

There have been no new deaths reported since last week’s update. There have been 162 total deaths across the WDGPH region attributed to COVID-19.

Outbreaks

No outbreaks of COVID-19 were reported by WDGPH in long-term care or retirement homes as of May 30.
