County approves funding for Minto

MINTO – The County of Wellington has approved a total of $25,000 in 2020 business retention and expansion funding for the Town of Minto.

Minto requested $15,000 to cover seven percent funding for the LaunchIt Business Exploration Centre in Harriston and $10,000 to cover 14 percent of the municipality’s Our Towns Rising project.

Founded in 2014 as Launchit Minto, the centre was rebranded to LaunchIt Business Exploration Centre. The centre provides local access to training, mentors, networking opportunities and resources to help businesses. New for 2020 is a partnership with northern Wellington Municipalities to deliver services in Mapleton and Wellington North.

Our Towns Rising includes All Aboard Palmerston, Clifford Connects and Harriston Rising. Each community project has a committee and collaborates with the local chamber, service clubs, community groups and a variety of businesses.

Proposed projects for 2020 include downtown banners, community murals, public art, street furniture, speaker systems and a pergola shade structure.

“Both of these projects provide excellent community engagement and enhance the offering and attractiveness of the local communities. LaunchIt is a local asset and valuable business resource that provides business support, meeting and office space,” states a staff report from county economic development director Crystal Ellis. “The Our Towns Rising project shows a commitment to enhancing the community by engaging business and residents in activating the downtown cores,” Ellis adds in the report.
