County announces approval of providers for Emergency School Age Child Care program

GUELPH – The County of Wellington has announced the approval of three licensed child care operators that will implement the targeted Emergency School Age Child Care program Jan. 4 to 8.

In a Dec. 29 press release, the county states spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at:

  • Community Resource Centre – J.D. Hogarth School Site (Fergus), 360A Belsyde Avenue East in Fergus;
  • YMCA of Three Rivers Child Care – Jean Little School site (Guelph), 56 Youngman Drive in Guelph; and
  • Wellington Home Child Care (serving Guelph and Wellington County).

“At this time, each site is able to offer 15 spaces and they are working to increase spaces as required,” said Luisa Artuso, director of the county’s Children’s Early Years Division.

“Being able to offer additional spaces will depend on staffing. Each cohort of 15 children will need to be in separate rooms.”

On Dec. 21, the province announced a 28-day province-wide lockdown (beginning Dec. 26) in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 across the province.

This order includes an extended school closure for all elementary schools. Elementary students will be learning remotely Jan. 4 to 8.

However all regular licensed, school board-operated and authorized recreation and skill building programs for elementary students will also be closed during this time period.
