Council supports extension for Rockwood subdivision

Second two-year extension sought

ROCKWOOD – Drexler Construction Limited is requesting a second two-year extension for a proposed seven-home condominium subdivision in the  urban centre of Rockwood.

The 1.35-hectare site is located on the southwest of the Eramosa River, between Dowler Street and the railway tracks.

The development is proposed to include seven detached homes with access from Dowler Street, as well as a common element open space including a wetland and buffer area.

The draft plan was first approved by the County of Wellington in January 2017, with an expiry of February 2022. An extension was granted to push the expiry to November 2023. Now, Drexler Construction is seeking a second two-year extension to allow additional time to fulfil the draft plan conditions.

Drexler Construction is working on completing work required by Metrolinx and is working with Guelph/Eramosa to clear township specific conditions, including working through the  wording of the development agreement.

There were no concerns or objections from the township building department, public works department or the Grand River Conservation Authority.

County of Wellington planning staff have no concerns with the request, and recommend Guelph/Eramosa supports the requested extension. Though authority to grant the extension lies with the County of Wellington, a resolution from Guelph/Eramosa is required.

Guelph/Eramosa council voted unanimously in support of the extension request.
