If your pet escaped from your residence or wandered off tomorrow, would it find its way back home?
Some pets wear no form of identification at all. Many pets wear collars and tags. Collars are often loosely fitted and/or have release mechanisms should the collar get caught on something.
As a pet travels through brush the collar gets snagged and the animal pulls back until its head slips through the collar.
Consequently, many animals picked up by animal control officers have no visible means of identification. A microchip identification system is an inexpensive, reliable and permanent method for identifying your pet.
The microchip consists of a computer chip encased in bio- compatible glass container that is hermetically sealed. Each computer chip has its own unique number. The microchip has no internal energy source. It will only respond when acted upon by a microchip scanner.
Each microchip is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted into the base of the neck between the shoulder blades. No anesthetic is required for this procedure.
When your pet receives his/her microchip you will be given a registration form with the unique number of your pet and a tag for his collar. This tag (if it is still with your pet) will alert the person who finds your pet that it has microchip identification.
When you submit your registration form with a one time registration fee (presently $10), your pets information and your contact information will be entered into a central data system. If your animal is picked up by animal control they will scan for the presence of a microchip. When your pet’s microchip number appears, your contact information can be accessed from the central data base 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year by internet or toll free phone. Then you can be contacted and arrangements can be made to get your pet home.
The National Companion Animal Coalition will only recognize the ISO technology for microchips. They are a universal microchip that can be read by several different scanners. We purchase our microchips for EIDAP Inc. and they are ISO standard.
Microchip identification is a simple, secure and permanent method of identifying your pet.
