Community tree planting at James McQueen school

Area residents are invited to James McQueen Public School in Fergus to join in latest greening projects

On May 26 from 9am onwards volunteers will help create a great green outdoor space for school children and the community.

With the help of donations from parent council and local community groups, organizers aim to unify the schoolyard with the surrounding neighbourhood by planting mature trees, creating seating areas and gathering spaces, making this a beautiful area for the school and neighbourhood to enjoy for years to come.

Mature trees are already in but now we need help with the smaller trees donated by Green Legacy.

Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, wheelbarrows, watering cans and gloves.

The whole family is welcome. There will be machinery on site so parents are reminded keep their children safe.

Organizers agree the project is a lot of work but the entire community will reap the rewards for years to come.

None of this would be possible without the generous support of its numerous community sponsors and volunteers from within the community.

Greener McQueen is an informal group of volunteers at James McQueen Public School. The goal is to increase the environmental awareness of our students, their families and for the wider community. The three-pronged approach emphasizes making healthy food choices, promoting environmentally friendly actions and caring for the green environments within the school and beyond. Those involved welcome new ideas and enthusiasm. Take time out to join the fund at  James McQueen PS is located at 365 St George Street West in Fergus.
