Centre Wellington council paid $203,000 last year

ELORA – Centre Wellington’s mayor and councillors were paid a total $202,977 in honorariums and expenses in 2022 – down $1,085 from the $204,062 paid to them in 2021.

Township treasurer Adam McNab presented the 2022 report at the March 27 meeting.

With 2022 being an election year, the former council and new council are both recorded on the 2022 payroll.

Former mayor Kelly Linton was paid $41,330 in base pay plus $2,905 in a category called  “meetings” for a total $44,235. Current mayor Shawn Watters was paid $5,188 in 2022.

Each of the former councillors – Ian MacRae, Kirk McElwain, Bob Foster, Neil Dunsmore and Steve VanLeeuwen – were paid a base salary of $20,728.

McElwain was paid an additional $2,000 in the meetings category; Foster another $1,600 and Dunsmore $5,150 for meetings.

Foster made another $9,180 in honorariums and expenses for being on the board of Centre Wellington Hydro.

McRae was paid an additional $1,410 for his time on the board of the Grand River Conservation Authority. Watters now sits on that board and he was paid $156 in 2022.

Councillor Stephen Kitras was paid $17,408 in 2022. He took leave from council to run in the provincial election.

New council members

The new councillors – Barb Lustgarten-Evoy, Bronwynne Wilton, Jennifer Adams, Denis Craddock, Kim Jefferson and Lisa MacDonald, each were paid $2,602 last year.

Lustgarten-Evoy, Wilton, Craddock and Jefferson each claimed expenses related to cellphones in the range of $350 to $540 in 2022.

Every municipality is required to report on annual mayor and council remuneration by March 31.
