Centre hosting silent auction to support building upgrades

On June 2 the Victoria Park Seniors Centre will host a musically-supported Silent Auction at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The event, which runs from 4 to 8pm, will raise funds to pay for upgrades not covered by the general construction contract for the expansion at the seniors centre.

“We have a target of $100,000 needed for the centre’s kitchen and furnishings and equipment in the expanded building,” said fundraising committee chairman Harry Barrett.

“The auction is a major part of our efforts to do so … members of the centre have already contributed over $200,000 to construction costs and we are really optimistic that we will achieve our new target.”

The Sportsplex, located on Belsyde Avenue just east of Scotland Street in Fergus, will be open from 4pm to permit viewing and early bidding, while the entertainment will run from 4:30 until 8pm.

As bidding is underway, those attending will enjoy the toe-tapping music of the Country Classics, the Greystones and classical guitarist Brian Ward.

With refreshments (“nominal” cost), raffles, a free ticket to the door prize and no admission fee, the event will be a great way to spend an afternoon and evening, officials say.
