Bus tour to showcase Upper Grand's innovative Library Learning Commons
The school board is going on a road trip to see the evolution of libraries in the Upper Grand.
On April 22 UGDSB Teacher-Librarians will hop on buses and travel around the district to different innovative Library Learning Commons in some of the board’s schools.
Many of people think of a library as a place to find resources for borrowing - books, movies or music. As a student many might have used the library as a quiet place to study, sitting alone at a carrel desk with text and notes.
Things have changed. And so has the board.
Over the past couple of years the UGDSB has been transitioning school libraries into Library Learning Commons to support the changes in teaching and learning brought on by the increased use of technology, 24/7 access to digital resources, inquiry based learning, and collaborative learning environments.
The bus trip event, #LIB2LLC, will offer hands-on demonstrations and a close up look at innovative features – like Makerspaces – housed in these facilities.
Staff will visit four Library Learning Commons, two in Guelph and two in Orangeville.
Some of these spaces have evolved over time, while others are brand new facilities – showcasing the potential in any building to create a discovery centre.
