The March meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board was held on March 22. The following provides highlights from the meeting.
Updated policies released for public input
Trustees approved that the following policies be released for public consultation: 305 Pupil Accommodation Review, 319 Community Planning and Partnerships, 320 School Boundary Review, 208 Smoke-Free Environment and 516 Asthma Friendly Schools.
Policies 305 and 319 have been revised to comply with specific changes outlined by the Ministry of Education. Policy 320 has been revised to conform to the board’s accessible format and to align with changes in the revised Policy 305 given the correlation between these processes.
Revisions to Policy 208 bring the Board into alignment with provincial legislation and regulations. The updated policy also reinforces the board’s support for accommodating the traditional use of tobacco by indigenous persons for cultural purposes.
Policy 516 is a new policy, which has been developed to bring the board into compliance with Bill 20, Ryan’s Law (Ensuring Asthma Friendly Schools). The board is committed to minimizing the risks to students with asthma while in attendance at school or a school-related activity.
The public will be notified of the opportunity to provide feedback on all of the above policies in a variety of ways, including through school Newsletters and websites, on social media, on the board website and through email alerts. For more information on policies released for public consultation, visit the board website at www.ugdsb.on.ca/policy.
