Mark Bailey was re-elected Chair of the Upper Grand District School Board at the inaugural meeting of the board on Dec. 6. It is his fifth year as the board’s chair.
Following his re-election, Bailey thanked the board for its commitment to student success, and trustees for their dedication to working together even in the face of challenging times and having to make difficult decisions.
“Knowing that we will face these challenges as a collaborative team who can both empathize with our communities but ultimately make the decision that is best for our students in the long term provides me great optimism,” Bailey said.
Trustee Marty Fairbairn, who represents Guelph Ward 6 and Puslinch Township, was acclaimed to serve as vice-chair for a fifth year.
The positions are for a one-year term ending Nov. 30.
At the Inaugural meeting, trustees were also named to the board’s various committees.
Trustee Susan Moziar continues her role of program committee chair for the next year, with trustee Barb White continuing as vice-chair. Trustee Bruce Schieck continues his role of business operations committee chair, with Trustee Martha MacNeil continuing as vice-chair.
Fairbairn will serve as a director on the Ontario Public School Board Association’s (OPSBA) board of directors.
The organization is routinely called on by the provincial government for input and advice on legislation, labour negotiations and the impact of government policy directions.
Trustees expressed their appreciation to the media for coverage of education issues during the past year and for their continued co-operation and help broadcasting school bus information on inclement weather days during the school year.
