Arthur senior shoots pellet gun at passing car; OPP cruiser damaged during arrest

Police have charged an Arthur senior in connection with a pellet gun shooting and subsequent run-in with OPP officers.

On June 1 at about 3pm Wellington County OPP responded to a 911 call from a driver on Highway 6 north of Fergus.

"The occupants of the vehicle reported that the driver of a red Honda Accord had pointed a gun at them as they were passing by him by Sideroad 15," police stated in a press release.

"Police now believe that this was a pellet gun."

The suspect allegedly shot at the victim's vehicle, causing damage to the passenger door.

The victim, who did not know the suspect, pulled off the road to call 911, police say.

Officers located the suspect in his vehicle in downtown Fergus on St. Andrew Street.

"During the arrest contact was made between the suspect vehicle and a marked cruiser, causing damage to both vehicles," police stated.

"The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a local detachment for investigation."

There were no injuries to anyone involved.

William Coyle Emburgh, 71, of Arthur, has been charged with pointing a fire arm, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of assault with a weapon. He is to appear in Guelph court on July 25.

Police are asking anyone with information about the inciden to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip at www.cstip.ca.
