A year has passed

This past Tuesday was a quiet day of reflection for friends, co-workers and the family of Stephen Thorning.

That day marked the one year anniversary of Stephen’s untimely passing on Feb. 23, 2015.

Stephen’s writing career included stints at other publications before landing with the county-wide Wellington Advertiser.

The idea was, and remained, that columns published along the way could be enjoyed while he gathered information for a series of books on local history. Time ran out before that project was completed.

With the assistance of Stephen’s sister Susan, we are re-publishing a collection of his work to hopefully form part of a title down the road.

People appreciate their local history and by drawing on the expanse of his portfolio, we should be able to publish stories many people may have never read before. Publishing his column again will help with the process of eventually publishing a book(s) of his work.

There have been many times over the past year that we would have enjoyed a conversation with Steve. Whether about politics, the economy or just passing fancies on one subject or another, he has been a missed colleague and friend.

His column will appear on page 12 of the Advertiser under the heading Thorning Revisited. We trust readers will enjoy visiting again with Wellington County’s best known historian.
