ELORA – “Students should be able to go outside and play with their friends on play equipment without the added risk of being injured due to other peoples’ negligent behaviour.”
That’s the message from police following several incidents of vandalism and theft at St. Mary Catholic School in Elora.
On Sept. 14 at about 11:15am Wellington County OPP officials were informed the school, located on Irvine Street, has been targeted over the last several weekends.
Police say, “Play structures have been overturned and property from the kindergarten area has been stolen and later located throughout the neighbourhood.”
Broken beer bottles and glass has also been found in the play area, police added.
They are reminding residents that removing items from a property is theft, even if it is dumped a block or two away, and damaging property is considered mischief.
“These are trying enough times for children, parents and teachers with the schools re-opening during the pandemic and the focus being on health, safety, distancing, cohorting, sanitizing, as well as learning,” police stated.
“Parents, please speak with your children about respecting others’ property and … know where your children are, what they are up to and who they are with.”
