When the holiday season is anything but merry

‘Tis most definitely the season.

Unfortunately, for people grieving the death of a loved one, the sights, sounds and traditions of this time of year don’t always bring joy – and they can be anything but merry.

“The holiday season can compound feelings of loss,” said Jaime Bickerton, executive director of Bereaved Families of Ontario – Midwestern Region (BFO-MR).

“For people grieving the death of a loved one, it can be an especially difficult time of year.”

BFO-MR is hosting three educational sessions titled “Anything but Merry” where the difficulties of the holiday season are acknowledged and coping strategies are shared.

Sessions include:

– Nov. 29 at 7pm at Hespeler Memorial Arena in Cambridge in the Optimist Room;

– Dec. 7 at 7pm at The Family Centre, Room 2015 in Kitchener;

– Dec. 11 at 7pm at YMCA-YWCA of Guelph.

These educational sessions are open to everyone and offered free of charge; however registration is requested.

Call or email the office to confirm attendance at 519-603-0196 or support@bfomidwest.org.
