Guelph vigil calls for action on violence against women

The community is invited to participate in a vigil on Dec. 6 at the Boathouse in Guelph at 6:30pm in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada.

The day was established in 1991 by the Canadian government and it marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal.

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering victims and also a time to take action, organizers state.

Dec. 6 also represents an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in society and communities can consider concrete actions to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, organizers note..
