The third annual Community Coat Drive in Arthur is taking place on Oct. 22 from 1 to 4pm at the Arthur fire station.
“Whoever wants a new coat or maybe they’ve outgrown their other one or they just need to freshen up their wardrobe – it’s offered to whoever … wants or needs them,” said organizer Jennifer Guidotti.
Arthur Public School and St. John Catholic School are both drop off points for donated coats, hats, gloves and scarves during school hours until Oct. 21.
There is also a permanent donation box at 455 Eliza Street in Arthur and Arthur Second Look collects coats throughout the year for the drive.
Guidotti said all coats will be washed and ready for wear on Oct. 22.
Any leftover coats will be given to Marianne’s Place, an emergency shelter for women and children in Guelph.
“They kind of disperse it all throughout Wellington County wherever the need is,” Guidotti said.
While the goal of the coat drive is to help people in need of a coat, Guidotti said it’s open to the whole community.
For those who wish to make a donation in exchange for a coat, the Community Coat Drive will be accepting cash or non-perishable food items for the Arthur Food Bank. However, a donation is not required to take a coat.
