Global health expert appointed to Waterloo Wellington LHIN board

Janice Kopinak is the newest member of the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) board of directors.

“I am looking forward to joining the Waterloo Wellington LHIN board to gain a broader understanding of the local health system and contribute to the WWLHIN’s strategy to integrate health care from prevention, to treatment, to end-of-life care,” Kopinak said.

“Being involved in my community has always been important to me and I’m excited to share my expertise and experience to the benefit of our local health system.”

Kopinak is a global health expert from Guelph who has worked with Global Affairs Canada, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Development Program, the Canadian Red Cross, and many others.

Currently working as a part-time global health consultant, Kopinak also has experience as a front-line public health nurse and a professor at the University of Toronto, McMaster University/Hamilton Health Sciences and Conestoga College.

Strong connections

She has a Master of Health Science from McMaster University, a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Toronto and is an emergency responder for the Canadian Red Cross.

“She brings a welcome front-line and international best-practice lens to the board, with strong connections in the Guelph Community,” Waterloo Wellington LHIN board chair Michael Delisle said.

“We are fortunate to have her join our robust and diverse governance team.”

Kopinak has also published on topics relevant to global and mental health, is an active community volunteer having served on the board of Guelph General Hospital, and currently on the University of Guelph Research Ethics Board.
