County engineer to retire in October

At the May 25 county council meeting, engineer Gord Ough announced his retirement effective Oct. 1.

Ough joined the county in March of 1991 as the assistant county engineer. On Dec. 1, 1991, county council passed a bylaw appointing Ough to the position of engineer. In the position, Ough has been responsible for all engineering services, including roads and solid waste services.

“On behalf of county council and staff I would like to thank Gord for 26 years of outstanding leadership and municipal service,” said Warden Dennis Lever.

“Gord’s experience, knowledge and professionalism will be missed around the county.”

Prior to accepting his position with the county, Ough worked for the Town of Ajax and the Village of Newcastle.

“Gord Ough has been an integral part of the County of Wellington for the last 26 years,” said Scott Wilson.

“Gord’s hard work and commitment to the county will be greatly missed. I wish Gord all the best in his retirement. He leaves very big shoes to fill.”

Ough said, “It has been a privilege to work with several councils and the dedicated and hardworking staff at the County of Wellington.

“It has been a bittersweet decision to retire but I look forward to spending more time with my family.”
