Seven area projects have received more than $135,000 in Ontario150 funding that officials say “will empower and engage the next generation of leaders,” in celebration of the province’s 150th anniversary.
The Ontario150 Partnership Program provides youth with opportunities to actively participate in their communities in ways that reflect their creativity, cultural expression, diversity, inclusion, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurship, healthy living and civic engagement.
The seven projects involving the Wellington County are include:
– Elora Centre for the Arts received $7,500 for Boyling Point 15-150, an art and dance event set to take place on July 1 at the centre;
– Elora Festival and Singers received $25,000 for the Canada and Ontario 150 celebration during the festival, which takes place from July 14 to 30 at various venues in Elora;
– Fergus Curling club received $5,043 to celebrate Ontario150 during a Family Day open house on Feb. 20 (the event celebrated the history of curling and of the club);
– Ontario Streams received $19,716 for a celebration of Ontario’s geography, history and cultural diversity in Centre Wellington, which will take place from June 26 to July 1 at Confederation Park in Fergus;
– The Volunteer Centre of Guelph Wellington received $9,712 to create a mural commemorating 150 years of volunteering that will take place on June 28 at the Volunteer Centre in Guelph;
– The Volunteer Centre of Guelph and Wellington also received $7,000 to host the Time to Give Community Breakfast on April 28 at the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre; and
– Wellington County received $63,500 for a partnership program that promotes youth inclusion in rural labour markets. The project involves literature reviews, focus groups and skill building workshops for youth throughout 2017.
