The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has reached a tentative agreement with the province and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association regarding the extension of the 2014-17 collective agreements.
“The recent round of discussions with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association were extremely collaborative and productive, and have resulted in a tentative agreement to extend their current contract by two years,” said Ontario minister of education Mitzie Hunter.
If the new agreement is ratified the contracts will be valid until 2019.
“Our goal with respect to any collective agreement is an agreement that promotes stability in the sector, is consistent with our fiscal plan, and achieves positive results for students and for those who work in the education system,” she said.
OECTA represents the almost 45,000 teachers in publicly funded English Catholic schools in Ontario.
“This agreement is in the best interests of teachers and their students,” OECTA president Ann Hawkins stated.
The details of the tentative agreement are confidential, pending ratification by all parties.
