Local hospitals welcome first babies of 2017

Little Ellen Bearinger is Wellington County’s first baby of 2017.

Born at Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest, Ellen arrived at 11:20pm on Jan. 1 to parents Sarah and Amon Bearinger, who live between Harriston and Mount Forest.

Ellen is child number 10 for the Bearingers.

“There’s six boys and three girls that are eager to see her,” said Sarah. She added the seven-pound, three-ounce baby arrived a couple of weeks early, which was a pleasant surprise.

Groves Memorial Community Hospital welcomed Carl McKim Moore to Fergus parents Jenna Ecclestone-Moore and Alex Moore on Jan. 2 at 12:41am.

Alex, who was at work, said he received a phone call from Jenna at midnight on New Year’s Eve saying her water broke.

After more than 20 hours of labour and a caesarean section, Carl came into the world at nine pounds, seven ounces – two days after his due date.

He is Jenna and Alex’s first child. Both parents said they are excited he is the first 2017 baby born in Centre Wellington.

“It’s pretty exciting. We didn’t think it would happen, even though her due date was close,” said Alex.

They both thanked Groves staff members for their support.

Centre Wellington Welcome Wagon representatives Helen Marucci and Virginia Burns presented gifts from 43 local businesses to the family on Jan. 4.

Both babies are healthy and their moms are doing well.

No babies had been born at Palmerston and District Hospital by press time.
