Understanding your meds with MedsCheck

Do you have questions about your medications?

When you’re taking three or more medications or living with diabetes, keeping track of what you can take can be difficult. Luckily, Ontario has MedsCheck, a free program from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, where patients meet one-on-one with their pharmacist to make sure they are using all medications in a safe and proper way.

Patients arriving for a meeting with your pharmacist, must have a valid Ontario Health Card and a list of all prescription and non-prescription medications used  — this includes all ointments, creams and lotions, and all natural health products. The MedsCheck appointment is a chance to discuss how prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and alternative medications may be affecting each other.

After the consultation, a personal medication record is issued by the pharmacist who will also send it to other health care providers so everyone is up-to-date. This record will list all of the medications an individual is currently taking, including prescription drugs, herbals and over-the-counter products.
