January programs in northern Wellington

The Seniors’ Centre for Excellence (SCE) for northern Wellington County has announced new programs for January.

That includes a Friendship Circle on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30am at Mount Forest Pentecostal Church. This free coffee group is a great venue to learn about other community events and health programs available in Mount Forest and the surrounding area.

The third week of each month is the Golden Hearts Luncheon, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a delicious meal, speaker and fellowship. All denominations are welcome.

Another Friendship circle is being hosted at Palmerston United Church on Jan. 27 from 10 to 11am, featuring conversation and free coffee and treats. Officials say there is never a shortage of things to chat about at this friendly and welcoming group.

“Cooking on a Budget” is being held on Jan. 18 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the  Harriston Legion. Join Minto-Mapleton FHT dietitian Jenny Harrison in this free hands-on workshop about preparing healthy meals with ingredients available at local grocery stores or food banks. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this program you must pre-register by calling the Family Health Team at 519-638-2110.

There is an Art Workshop on Jan. 20 from 2 to 4pm at the Palmerston Library.  This month Donna’s topic is “Drawing Out Our Best for 2016”. Practice drawing exercises referencing the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.  Bring a mason jar to initiate your Artistic Goal Jar.

No experience is necessary, just an open mind and a desire to try something new. Cost is $5. Call the Seniors Centre for Excellence to register.
