My Healthy Mind Contest is a community initiative to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health and learning challenges.
Youth and young adults (10 to 25 years old) who reside or attend school in Guelph or neighbouring counties have been invited to submit an essay, poem, or artwork/photograph relating to positive strategies they use to cope with emotional stress. Oct. 30 is the submission deadline.
Norfolk Psychological Services is providing cash prizes to the selected winners, who will also receive gifts from local businesses. Finally, there is a large panel of judges representing education, health, mental health and art.
On Nov. 19, from 6:30 the 9pm, the My Healthy Mind Contest committee is hosting a celebration and awards event at Cutten Club in Guelph.
At the event, there will be speakers sharing their stories of coping with mental health issues. In addition, there will be food, drinks, cake, and many door prizes available to all who attend.
The My Healthy Mind Contest committee is excited about the event and the opportunity to raise the voice of the youth, officials say. For information visit www.norfolkpsych.com/healthy-mind-contest.aspx.
