Centre Wellington has a new sport tourism website page

The Township of Centre Wellington is pleased to announce the addition of a sport tourism page on the new website.

Sport tourism is a niche market that has grown significantly in the last number of years and generates billions of tourism dollars every year across Canada.

Centre Wellington recognizes that visiting sporting teams and their tourism dollars generate income for the local economy and keep the downtowns busy and thriving all year.

Sport tourism coordinator Robyn Mulder has put in place some local initiatives to entice team members and their spectators into the downtowns of Fergus and Elora in the hopes of generating more tourism for Centre Wellington.

Initiatives include a “Promotional Flyer” with 16 local businesses represented offering discounts; a “Quick Facts” sheet for tournament organizers to help them make local choices for accommodation, restaurants and shopping; and a “Sport Tourism Questionnaire” to help the township better understand the activity of visitors throughout our downtowns.

The township would like to encourage anyone organizing sporting or recreational events that involve visiting teams to contact Mulder as she will be able to give local tourism advice, unique packages designed for specific types of teams and other promotional items.
