The road department brought six tenders for council’s approval at the May 5 meeting here.
Dust suppressant
The town received four tender bids for dust control and road stabilization materials and road superintendent Larry Van Wyck said he had reservations about the lowest bidder, 552976 Ontario Ltd. (Holland Transport).
“There is no satisfactory laboratory analysis included with the information saying what the concentration of chlorides actually are,” he said. “We’re suspect that the contractor does not have sufficient equipment to meet our requirements and we want to make sure that they have enough trucks and can respond.”
Holland Transportation will receive the tender for $73,114 if it proves it can meet the town needs.
The council resolution gave Van Wyck the autonomy to go to the second lowest bidder, Pollard Highway Products ($82,824), if Holland Transportation doesn’t meet the requirements.
Petroleum products
The town received four tenders for coloured diesel, clear diesel and unleaded fuel.
The tender was awarded to Bryan’s Fuel for an estimated price of $169,012.
Pickup truck
Two tenders for the emergency replacement pickup were submitted to the town for consideration, Van Wick said.
The tender was awarded to Howes and Reeves Limited for a 2015 ¾ ton pickup truck (Dodge 2500) for $36,317.
Maintenance gravel
A tender was also awarded for the supply of the loader and the trucks to haul gravel from Barbour Field and place it on the road. The tender was awarded to Cox Construction Limited for $109,480.
Asphalt Paving
Four bids were received for the tender for repaving the Second Line from Sideroad 17 to County Road 22. T. Cox Construction Limited was the lowest bidder and was awarded the tender for $183,684.
Pavement marking
Five bids were received for the pavement marking tender. Midwest Line Stripping submitted the lowest quote ($16,713) and the town has worked with the company in the past, Van Wyck said.
