Local legal clinic moving

The Guelph Community Health Centre and the Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington have announced that, beginning in April, they will be sharing space in the Community Health Centre at 176 Wyndham Street North.

In preparation for the move, the legal clinic will not be booking appointments during the first two weeks of April but will continue to serve clients over the phone.

“The legal clinic and  the Guelph Community Health Centre  share a deep commitment to serving the same population and  advocating for social changes through education and empowerment,” said Anthea Millikin, executive director of The Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington.  “It’s an excellent partnership and we’re very pleased to be able to offer holistic support services to our shared  clients through our  new space  within  the  health centre.”

The arrangement will see the legal clinic occupying accessible barrier-free office space in the Guelph Community Health Centre building. The organizations will continue to operate independently but plan to collaborate on programs or events that support their shared values and common clients and that address issues related to poverty and social exclusion.

“At the Guelph CHC our primary goal is to reduce or eliminate barriers to health our clients face,” said executive director of the Guelph Community Health Centre David Thornley. “Often those barriers include challenges in accessing  essentials, such as housing or social assistance in an effective and timely manner.”

He added, “With immediate access to the supports and services offered by the Legal Clinic, we can support our clients getting the professional legal help they need. We’ve found that having complementary services in our building is a real benefit to our clients”
