Enhanced physiotherapy services now offered at hospitals

As part of a provincially-funded initiative, Palmerston and District Hospital (PDH) is now offering physiotherapy services and Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) is enhancing its physiotherapy services.

Funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and operated by the outpatient physiotherapy department, the clinics accept referrals through local family physicians and nurse practitioners.

The service provides goal-oriented treatment to patients with specific conditions with a defined health outcome. The number, frequency and duration of visits offered will vary based on the patient need.

To be eligible for publicly-funded physiotherapy services, a person must be referred by a physician or nurse practitioner. They must be OHIP-insured and be in one of the following categories:

– aged 65 years and older;

– younger than 19 years;

– recently discharged as an inpatient of a hospital and in need of physiotherapy directly connected to the condition, illness or injury for which they were admitted; or

– be referred by a physician or nurse practitioner and be eligible for funding under the Ontario Disability Support or Ontario Works program.

Anyone interested in accessing these services, can contact their physician or nurse practitioner for a referral.

In addition to the physiotherapy services offered at PDH and GMCH, Louise Marshall continues to offer outpatient physiotherapy services.
