Pettapiece recognizes Arthur mural and military members

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece delivered a member’s statement in the Ontario legislature recognizing the new mural at the Arthur Cenotaph on Nov. 4.

Pettapiece attended the dedication of the new mural, which recognizes the service of all veterans and soldiers. Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott also attended the event.

In his statement, which also recognized the Remembrance Day ceremonies across the riding, Pettapiece said, “I would like to recognize and thank all of those who have been involved in the mural project, including: the muralist, Cliff Smith, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 226 in Arthur, the Arthur and Area Historical Society, the Township of Wellington North, and all of the dedicated volunteers.

“Arthur is proudly known at the Most Patriotic Village in Canada, and for good reason. One out of every seven Arthur residents fought in the Second World War. The Cenotaph honours the sacrifice of these soldiers, along with all those who fought in the First World War.

“As the new mural reads, “Remember…Freedom Isn’t Free.” We are reminded of that as we approach Remembrance Day – one I’m sure that will be particularly significant for all Canadians this year.

Pettapiece noted there will be ten Remembrance Day ceremonies hosted by local Royal Canadian Legion branches in Perth-Wellington.

“Today, I recognize the Legion members and volunteers who are organizing ceremonies in: Milverton, St. Marys, Atwood, Clifford, Stratford, Mount Forest, Arthur, Palmerston, Harriston, Drayton and Aboyne. I’m hoping to attend as many of your services as I can,” he said.
