The Town of Mino has received a bronze level Walk Friendly designation from Canada Walks and Green Communities Canada.
“The Town of Minto was a very early supporter of walkability, beginning seven years ago,” when the town served as a case study and featured keynote at the Walk21 conference in Toronto, noted Karen Armstrong of Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health at the Nov. 18 Minto council meeting.
The town’s trail system and pedestrian-friendly downtowns were among the factors contributing to the successful application for the designation.
Strong council support for walkability initiatives and active partnership with public health were also cited, said Armstrong.
“The Town of Minto walks the talk,” she stated, noting the town regularly places first in fitness challenges hosted by the health unit in the region.
