Stress awareness workshop in Guelph

The Stress Management and High Performance Clinic will be marking International Stress Awareness Day on Nov. 5, with a special, free workshop for the public.

Tune your brain and lengthen your fuse from 7 to 9pm in Room 441 in University Centre at the University of Guelph.

Continuously stressful situations, or thinking again and again of a stressor tunes the brain’s amygdala (the 911 alarm system) to respond faster and more intensely to the next stressful event or thought.

This can be adaptive for survival, but in everyday Canadian life it may not be helpful to continually shorten your fuse toward even more hair-trigger explosive reactions.

It is now known that we can also tune the amygdala to have a longer fuse and decrease over-reactivity.

In this workshop Kathy Somers presents some of the ideas and brain calming strategies that are coming out of recent brain plasticity research. Everyone is welcome to attend.
