Students in the Wellington Catholic District School Board are either meeting or surpassing the provincial standards in reading, writing and mathematics, the latest EQAO results show.
Overall Grade 3 students finished at 68 per cent in reading, barely missing the provincial average of 70.
They were right on par with a 79 in writing, compared to a score of 78 for the province.
In mathematics, the board received a score of 74, exceeding the provincial number of 67%.
Over the past five years, the number of grade 3 students who met or exceeded the provincial average in reading and writing has increased by 8% in both areas, according to a board release.
In Grade 6 the board achieved a 75% in reading compared to Ontario’s average of 79. Writing remained consistent at a 79 verses the provincial score of 78. Math saw board students finish at 58, placing them 4% higher than Ontario’s score of 54.
Similar to the primary students, the number of grade 6 students who met or exceeded the provincial average has increased by 7% in reading and 8% in writing.
The release states that areas of focus for the coming year will be improving junior math and primary reading.
