For more than 50 years, Groves Hospital Volunteer Association (GHVA) has awarded a $2,000 bursary to a student pursuing health-related studies at the post-secondary level.
The GHVA announced this year’s recipient is Lucas McDougall, a graduate of Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest.
Inspired by the tragic death of his best friend and the compassionate nursing care his friend received in his last days, McDougall set his sights on a career that, in his words, would allow him “to help and care for people every day in a meaningful and impactful way.”
Deciding to become a nurse, he took every opportunity to further his experience in the health field while still in high school, including participation in Rural Health Day at Louise Marshall Hospital. He is pursuing further studies at Laurentian University.
