On the 20th anniversary of the designation of the Grand river as a heritage river, the heritage river working committee has partnered with the Arthur and Area Historical Society to hold a mini Heritage Day celebration in the northern part of the watershed with a bus trip to the source of the Grand River.
The bus will leave from the Arthur Senior Hall on Oct. 3 at 1:30pm, with pre-registration at 8am.
Participants will enjoy a narrated headwaters tour to the source of the Grand and Luther Marsh wildlife management area taking in many historical sites along the way.
The day will start off with coffee and muffins at the Seniors Hall in Arthur. There will also be an update on the reason Arthur is the most patriotic village plus the early history of the village of Arthur and area by historian John Walsh.
Cliff Smith, artist of the murals of Arthur, will be present to explain the history behind the murals. Participants will view the murals on the walking tour of Main Street Arthur, returning to the hall for lunch before boarding the bus for our tour north.
This tour is limited to 50 people first come first served. Cost for the day is $20. Those interested can contact Gail Donald at gail.donald@sympatico.ca or 519-848-3069.
