Township applies for $25,000 county grant

The township’s economic development committee has put in an application for $25,000 in funding from Wellington County.

Wellington North business economic manager Dale Small made council aware of the application for county funding in a report presented to council on July 14.

The county provides up to $25,000 in funding to each of its seven lower tier municipalities for economic development initiatives.

According to Small, the county funding will be used to improve signage for the township, continue with aspects of the community improvement plan aimed at exterior facades of businesses in Arthur and Mount Forest and will also include Kenilworth, and a program that would allow for vacant buildings to be occupied by artists, cultural projects and community groups while they remain empty.

Small indicated the application should be approved even though the county economic development committee is not expected to meet until September.

A detailed update of the plan is expected at the next township committee meeting in August.
