Harriston Motors’ second annual Touch a Truck was another huge success, raising $10,296 for Minto Fire.
The event took place on June 14 at Harriston Motors. Touch a Truck was chosen for a surprise visit from John Gignac from the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for Carbon Monoxide Awareness.
Gignac’s niece, OPP officer Lawrie Hawkins and her family, were killed by carbon monoxide poisoning at their home in Woodstock in 2007.
The foundation donated CO alarms to the Touch a Truck event and Gignac is considering returning to Minto for a campaign in the fall as well. The money raised will go towards a carbon monoxide program in Minto that includes carbon monoxide detecting equipment for the fire department as well as a public education awareness campaign.
Harriston Motors owners Paul and Ashley Van Den Hoven thanked the community for supporting the event. They are looking forward to a third annual Touch a Truck on June 13, 2015.
“If anyone is interested in joining the committee, we are always looking for volunteers,” organizers state.
