The Clifford Food Bank is on the move.
On July 8, Minto council approved a proposal to move the food bank operation from Knox United Church to a portion of the Minto public works shop in Clifford.
At its May 20th meeting, council received a request from food bank volunteer Bonnie Whitehead to relocate the facility to the shop and asked for a staff report.
At the July 8 meeting, a report from CAO Bill White indicated the public works facility is properly zoned for such a use, provided the space can be renovated to provide the proper fire and vapour barrier separation from the remainder of the building.
The estimated material cost of the renovations is just over $1,034 plus HST and installation.
“Public works believes operations can function within the remainder of the building, and that the loss of space will not impact on the level of service provided,” stated White. “As the public will be entering the building regularly, the renovation should allow for access by persons of all abilities. The town will have increased maintenance around the building, but otherwise (it) should not increase costs significantly.”
Council received the report recommending approval of the request from the food bank and authorized preparation of a lease agreement.
