Election activity in local ridings is heating up, with candidates off and running and candidate debates scheduled in both Wellington-Halton Hills and Perth-Wellington.
In Wellington-Halton Hills, all four major parties are fielding candidates.
Incumbent Conservative MPP Ted Arnott is facing challenges for the seat in the June 12 election from Liberal Dan Zister, Michael Carlucci of the NDP and Green Party candidate David Rodgers.
Scheduled candidates meetings in the riding include:
– May 26 at 7pm at the Puslinch Community Centre, 23 Brock Road South in Aberfoyle, sponsored by the Puslinch Optimist Club;
– May 28 at 7:30pm at the Elliott Theatre in Georgetown (in the Halton Hills Cultural Centre), sponsored by the Canadian Federation of University Women in partnership with Halton Hills Public Library; and
– June 2 at 8pm at the Elora Legion, sponsored by the Wellington Federation of Agriculture.
The Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meet the candidates breakfast on June 5 at 7am at the Ares Family Restaurant in Georgetown.
In addition, the Centre Wellington Social Justice Group is hosting a debate at Centre Wellington District High School on May 27 from 7 to 9pm. The debate will focus on adequate income, social assistance, affordable, healthy food, and affordable and appropriate housing.
In Perth-Wellington, the full slate of candidates includes: incumbent Conservative MPP Randy Pettapiece, Liberal Stewart Skinner, NDP candidate Romayne Smith Fullerton, Green Party candidate Chris Desjardins, Irma DeVries of the Family Coalition Party, Scott Marshall of the Libertarian Party and Robby Smink of the Freedom Party.
Candidate meetings in the Perth-Wellington riding include:
– May 27 at 7pm at the Alma Community Hall, hosted by the Alma Optimist Club;
– May 28 at 7:30pm at the St. Joseph’s Parish Centre in Listowel, hosted by the Perth County Federation of Agriculture; and
– May 29 at 7pm at the Rotary Complex in Stratford, hosted by the Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce.
