A party fit for a queen

Three Willows United Church in Guelph is offering a unique gift alternative this Mother’s Day.

If your mother is into historical events that is. Tickets are now available for Her Majesty’s (surprise) Birthday Party taking place May 18, at Three Willows United Church. The event will feature the Queen and Royal Party portrayed by experienced re-enactors and a four course meal based on menus and cookbooks from 1864– 150 years ago. The meal will be served after 2pm, in keeping with the custom of the royal household during that time period.

Arrival time at Three Willows is 1:30pm. Displays will immerse guests in the period of Queen Victoria. Then at 2pm, a grand procession will announce the sovereign’s arrival and the singing of God Save the Queen will commence. The grand meal will be served at 2:20pm.

The first course is macaroni  or Carrot soup with Bread. The second course includes roast beef or mutton, mashed potatoes, chicken curry with savory rice, and various vegetables cooked according to the period. The third course includes a choice of Victoria’s Pudding and Victoria sauce, open apple tarts, trifle, other period desserts and cheese. The fourth course is tea and coffee.

Tickets are $20 per person and need to be ordered by May 12 by calling 519-822-7690.

Net proceeds from the event will support the work and ministries of Three Willows United Church.
