It looks like Puslinch will be jumping on the logo creation bandwagon.
At a recent council session, members talked briefly about the need to develop a township logo.
The municipality does have a township crest, although that image does not specifically name the area it represents.
Councillor Susan Fielding noted that some of this discussion came as a result of a recent Community Oriented Policing session.
Concerns were raised because on the county-wide document which features logos from the municipalities involved – Puslinch was the only image which did not state which municipality it represented.
It is possible to put a banner over the image with the Puslinch name, but Fielding said that she and CAO Karen Landry both thought the image looked dated.
While it is good to have the municipal crest, Fielding asked whether it would be nice to have an updated logo as well.
Fielding said Guelph-Eramosa did a similar thing a few years ago.
Landry said a similar question came up with the company involved in the revamping of the township website.
“We would certainly be willing to look at what the costs may be.”
Landry said the other thing council needs to be aware of is the registration of the municipal coat of arms.
First, the township would need to determine whether there are rules and regulations as to whether a banner can be added to the existing crest.
She said that is just part of what would need to be looked at before coming back to council with a report, in addition to costs associated with creating a logo.
Mayor Dennis Lever asked if it could be brought back as a list of options.
Lever noted the township did have a presentation regarding the history of the existing township crest.
“I like the crest the way it is … but absolutely we should look at all of the options.”
Fielding commented that a lot of municipalities now have a crest and a logo.
Council agreed to have staff look at the cost of developing at township logo and bring a report back with options.
