Heavy rains have caused the edge of the 16th Line at the bridge/culvert between Bell’s Road and Holton Road to fail. The culvert contains a tributary of the South Saugeen River near Ballinfad Lake.
Town of Minto public works officials concluded the road over the bridge is unsafe for vehicles and the section of the 16th Line was closed to thru traffic as of May 14. Local traffic is permitted on the 16th Line from County Road 2/Ski Road to Holtom Road and from Base Line Road to Bell’s Road.
Local emergency services and the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority have been notified.
The 16th Line Bridge has been approved for replacement under the Provincial Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative Capital Program. Total cost is estimated at $647,500 Construction is scheduled to begin this summer.
The Town’s consulting engineer Gamsby and Mannerow will be providing advice as to timing of the work in light of these events, town officials state in a press release.
