It is estimated that at least one in three Canadians experience mental health problems each year.
And mental health issues indirectly affect everyone at some time, whether through a family member, friend or colleague.
With all the stress and challenges of life today, it’s important to pause and reflect on mental health and well-being, officials say.
That’s what Canadians are being encouraged to do as the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) launches its 63rd annual Mental Health Week.
In recognition of this important week – May 5 to 11 – activities are being planned all across the region to provide people with an opportunity to learn, talk about, reflect on, and engage with others in conversation about mental health and mental illness.
The Wellington North community is no exception. The HOPE committee, CMHA WWD, and the Mount Forest public library are partnering to host a “Free Movie and Popcorn Night’ on May 8 in the community room. Doors open at 6pm. There will be a screening of the award winning movie A Beautiful Mind, which tells the story of John Forbes Nash, a math genius who was able to solve problems that baffled the greatest of minds. It shows his experience of living with mental health problems, and ultimately his amazing accomplishments. The movie depicts his struggle and his strength to recover with the support of those who cared about him.
Organizers are inviting the entire community for “a great night out at the movies.” Information materials about community resources available to help will also be provided.
