Student production takes the stage at the Grand Theatre in Fergus

Arlekins Theatres, a local theatre group based in Fergus, will perform their play Business on the Fourth Floor April 25 and 26 for a second time at the Grand Theatre with hopes of garnering a higher attendance.

The show’s lead producer Jacob Hunter, 17, is a student at Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus, and he hopes the show will convey the breadth of dramatic talent in the community.

“We continue to write, produce and have students act in our plays in hopes to show the community what we young people really have to offer,” he says.

Business is a historical drama that takes place in Toronto during the 1920s. The story revolves around Lucy Martin, who moves there from Manitoba in search of a new, exciting life. She gets exactly that when she lands a job at the prestigious Toronto Telegram Newspaper and meets all sorts of quirky and fun characters. Lucy creates relationships with her colleagues as she attempts to find a way to pay back her debt to the mobster who helped to finance her journey.

“The show is filled with laughs, sadness, and the occasional groan,” Hunter says. “Business is a  must see for anyone who’s looking for a blast to the far past in a familiar world.”

After, re-casting and re-vamping the original show, Hunter and his team are ready to take the stage again, and this time around they are doubling their efforts to spread the word with hopes their production will get the audience it deserves.

“It would mean the world to me if you attended the show, and brought others to see it,” he said. “It’s a wonderful show with wonderful talent and should not be missed.”
