Minto officially opens renovated Harriston fire hall

The renovated Harriston fire station was officially opened at a well-attended April 5 open house.

The $670,000 addition, which includes a second-storey meeting room, additional office space and a storage area for bunker gear, was completed on budget, noted councillor Ron Faulkner, chair of the Town of Minto fire committee. Faulkner said the project was funded through building reserves and kept on budget through well-calculated RFPs.

“It gives us great satisfaction that our volunteer firefighters can train and work in a safe and professional environment,” said Faulkner.

Faulkner said about 30 firefighters work out of the Harriston station. When combined with Clifford and Palmerston stations, Minto’s fire department is the largest in Wellington County, he noted.

“The Town of Minto is so proud of our 85 volunteer firefighters,” he stated.

“This is a large project and there was a lot of money spent, but it was well-spent,” said Mayor George Bridge.
