An oratorical Contest was held recently at the Elora Legion sponsored by the CW-Fergus Optimist Club.
This was the first contest of this kind held by the club.
There were four contestants in the competition ranging in age from 11 to 18 years. The rules allow any student under the age of 19 to enter.
Reuben Dolderman 13, came in second place behind his sister, Karlie, 18, who placed first. Kristina and Avery Dolderman, shared third position.
The speeches were assessed by three judges and monetary prizes were awarded to the winners.
Karlie and Reuben will be competing at the zone level on April 26 in Waterloo. From there, a winner will move onto the district contest to be held in May.
College scholarships of 2,500, 1,500, and 1,000 will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize.
This contest, as well as an essay contest held at the beginning of the year, will be held annually.
